This is Lt. Commander Hoshino Ruri of the United Earth Space Fleet and captain of the battleship Nadesico. I know some things have happened lately and regret being unable to give proper support for them, but I'm learning the limits of what one person can do. Given technological differences is there anyone who was brought that has expertise in engineering, automation or advanced AI concepts? I've been working on a project that I suspect is several dozen if not over a hundred man hours and doing it alone has not proven to lead to being able to act quickly.

Also, if anyone knows where 06-09 in the Libra sector is, I would appreciate a tour. I haven't yet had enough time to screen all the map data for Omoikane so would probably get lost and once I finish up here I probably should see what sort of accommodations they have set aside for us here. Odds are that if I can't find a lake or something to put down in shuttling up and down may necessitate my staying there.

Tech... Priest? I was more looking for an engineer or another programmer, there really isn't any sort of religious need for the Nadesico.

Complex technology is a theological matter in many cases, if only because it is so arcane in function. [ That being said Astartes of his day don't pray to their bolters. </small.]

Its only theological if the end user is incapable of understanding logic in my experience. Its not like you can just paint a machine red to have it go faster or something.

No, then we'd be orks. And I'd have to disagree, at a certain point objects become too complex for anything other than a specialist to utilize them. Thus: The martian priesthood. I wear a fusion-bottle backpack, but I cannot build or design one myself, and can only monitor the functionality. This is not a failure of logic inasmuch as it is a specialization of training. A techpriest doesn't have my tactical abilities.

Not all specialists are priests though. I've known some technicians that make up religious rituals in their repairs to placate the uninformed, but I've never heard of a religious caste devoted to technology.

Is a fusion bottle similar to a microfusion reactor?

Possibly. It is man-portable. I'm unfamiliar with the concept of micro-fusion myself.

In training? What academy did you go to? Right now I'm working on preparing my ship for function given the fact the crew is missing.

Only the best academy out there! Why, I even was able to enter the Space Defence Agency just from a mere exam alone!

I see. It sounds very similar to the Jovian academies.

Then you agree to have me as part of your crew. [ Lowering her tone: ] If not, we might have to engage in a war in the stars!

[Oh, Ruri knows this type. She ponders for a moment on how Prospector would deal with this.]

I'm not certified to request crew by the local government. However I would be glad to give you some aptitude tests and see if you fit any of the open contractor positions.

I...have some engineering experience? I'm no genius, though.

What branch of engineering? Mechanical, electrical, robot maintenance?

Mechanical. I know a little bit about mobile suit maintenance, but not enough to be a full-time repairman.

Well, none of the Astevalus that are usually kept on board came with me, then again, none of the pilots did either.

If you have any experience with automation though I would appreciate any help that I can get.

Er...sorry, no. We don't even have AI advanced enough for full automation back home.

There aren't many back on my home either. I'm lucky to have been paired with Omoikane though, just the Nadesico usually has a crew of several hundred not just me and the AI.

I have plans for the automation just not all of it is built.

I haven't been in my apartment yet. I've had too many preparations but once I set down I'd be grateful for a tour.

Sure! The apartment buildings are pretty nice, they have shops and restaurants and a pool and all sorts of things!
