ITP: Questions
[Four months. January would mark her fourth month in this place and Arturia is very, very confused. This is a place where special abilities are not only accepted, but commonplace, and there's little chance of the Grail War coming here. She always hated keeping secrets back home, but had understood the why of it. It bothered her, but she had accepted this as a fact of life.
Even more than that, Shinji weighs on her mind. Shinji had been a jerk, there was no question about that. The girls who followed him around were the type of teenage girl who seemed to think that sort of person was a real man. Arturia knew better than that just from spending so much time with Sakura. The only reason Arturia had not tried beating him to a pulp for what he did to his sister had been due to Sakura asking her to leave him be and stay out of it. It angered her to just stand by and yet....
...yet when she gets back home, she has every intention of going to the Matou home and telling Sakura in person that her brother is dead. Arturia has no idea how to tell her and the thought of lying to Sakura and creating a cover story leaves her slightly ill whenever she thinks of it since, in the end, Arturia feels like she is the one responsible. Archer may have put the bullet through Shinji's brain, but he had been Arturia's Servant.
There had to have been an alternative. There had to be.

When is it acceptable to kill someone?
For that matter, when would you say it is acceptable to keep secrets.?
(ooc: Threadjacking is a-okay and encouraged)

Then again, she had never known there'd been another magus in the city apart from her until she'd gotten caught up in the Grail War.]
What about after?

Hey, be glad you just delve in the numbers and don't try to do every letter. It's impossible then.

Okay, sure. You didn't forget. Sora's just being an ass.
Yes exactly 9v9 darn kid
Hard to believe he grows up to be the ~pinnacle of manliness~ that is Haseo.
Sora would be equally as baffled, believe me
Sora is much more manrier than Haseo!
Totally! What happened Haseo you used to be cool. And smart.
Guess the coma did more to him than we thought.
Skeith ate it 8|

As for keeping secrets, that's up to you. It depends what you're keeping and who you're keeping it from. Is it important for them to know? If no then there's no real reason that you have to tell anyone anything.

Even if it's a secret you have to keep from your loved ones?

Outside of a war, things are less clear. It has been so long since I've been anything other than a soldier it is a hard question for me, morally. I shall refer to some of the texts I used to study while not training for battle, or engaged in a campaign: In general, leave the killing to soldiers and in certain circumstances law enforcement. In extremis, in self defense, or in the defense of others who are clearly threatened MAY constitute a cause to slay another, but only if you have no other choice. Try to pursue other options first. Disable your opponent, bind them, talk them down.
[ As for the second question, Garviel has VERY strong opinions. ]
I loathe and despise secrets, they are the basis of unfair dealing and rub against the creed of secular enlightenment and knowledge that I cleave to. That being established, I have been forced by circumstances into a position where certain secrets must be kept. It is a hard question to answer. My advice is to always be truthful unless the lie will save and preserve lives. Personal feelings are immaterial. I once made friends with a man because I knew he wouldn't lie to me, and I've never regretted it. As a general rule, lies only benefit those without honor or a good argument, so you should avoid using them, and thus buying into the world view of those who would manipulate others without trusting them with the truth.

[And Garviel is just giving her more reason not to tell him about the water-walking. Damn it, Garvi. You and your ENLIGHTENMENT talk! She intentionally doesn't talk anymore about the secrets.]

Same with secrets. Though... It's okay to keep them, if it's to protect someone.
[Riku should know... he's got plenty of those still.]

However, I doubt that any of us comes from an ideal world. We come from worlds where there are people who are dangerous. Who hurt themselves, people, and the world around them. There are people who cannot be stopped or imprisoned--only put down, for the sake of protecting innocent lives.
On the subject of secrets, I believe it is acceptable to keep a secret when the truth would do more harm than good.

As for secrets: would that include a secret meant more to protect yourself than others?

I'd say keeping secrets is alright as long as you know the person enough to not betray your trust, but even the most benevolent person on the surface may have their darker shades.
