ITP: Questions

[Four months. January would mark her fourth month in this place and Arturia is very, very confused. This is a place where special abilities are not only accepted, but commonplace, and there's little chance of the Grail War coming here. She always hated keeping secrets back home, but had understood the why of it. It bothered her, but she had accepted this as a fact of life.

Even more than that, Shinji weighs on her mind. Shinji had been a jerk, there was no question about that. The girls who followed him around were the type of teenage girl who seemed to think that sort of person was a real man. Arturia knew better than that just from spending so much time with Sakura. The only reason Arturia had not tried beating him to a pulp for what he did to his sister had been due to Sakura asking her to leave him be and stay out of it. It angered her to just stand by and yet....

...yet when she gets back home, she has every intention of going to the Matou home and telling Sakura in person that her brother is dead. Arturia has no idea how to tell her and the thought of lying to Sakura and creating a cover story leaves her slightly ill whenever she thinks of it since, in the end, Arturia feels like she is the one responsible. Archer may have put the bullet through Shinji's brain, but he had been Arturia's Servant.

There had to have been an alternative. There had to be.

When is it acceptable to kill someone?

For that matter, when would you say it is acceptable to keep secrets.?

Legally and morally, I find murder to be reprehensible. I believe that, under most circumstances, murderers should be punished for their actions. In an ideal world, murder should not exist.

However, I doubt that any of us comes from an ideal world. We come from worlds where there are people who are dangerous. Who hurt themselves, people, and the world around them. There are people who cannot be stopped or imprisoned--only put down, for the sake of protecting innocent lives.

On the subject of secrets, I believe it is acceptable to keep a secret when the truth would do more harm than good.

Does your world have many wars?

Metafalss is small and isolated, with few resources. Since the advancement of the Sea of Death and the Blastline, war has only been declared twice in modern history.

Metafalss has survived by clinging to the Rim of the Second Tower: my people stand to lose the very earth beneath their feet in the advent of a true war. There has been political unrest in our history but, aside from the War Against the Goddess, there has been nothing that has lead to full-scale battles that would put the Rim at risk.

The people of Metafalss have dreamed for centuries of singing the song that would create new land: Metafalica. Four hundred years ago, they came very close to achieving that dream. Unfortunately, they failed. An agent of the Goddess, Raki, descended from the Tower to bring an end to it by attacking the Maidens who were singing the Hymn. The Maiden of Fuero, Nenesha, died. The surviving Maiden of Aqua, Infel, declared War on the Goddess herself. Metafalss survived the War, but we were forbidden from singing the Song that would create land ever again.

Two years ago, I revived that War with the intention of winning back our right to sing Metafalica.

Did you win your right back?

It's a long story. [A very long, difficult story.] But in short-- yes, we did. Luca and I sang EXEC_with.METHOD_METAFALICA/. and created new land for our world.

The only thing that I would add to it is that, no matter the circumstance, a life should never be taken lightly. It should always stand as a last measure, when every other course of action has ended in failure. A life, even one filled with evil, should never be taken lightly.

I believe that would depend on the secret and what benefits or harm would arise from it being brought to light.

Ideally, I would strike to incapacitate. But I assume you are speaking of an unideal situation, where the only choices are to "kill" or "allow others to die."

In that situation, I would strike to kill. I place greater value on the safety and well-being of others over the grief I might cause to any surviving friends and family of the victim--or to myself, for taking the life of another.

I have. Some--mostly enemy soldiers or Reyvateils that had lost their minds--by my own hand... but there are many others that have died because of my words and the choices that I have made.

Those are the deaths that weigh the heaviest upon my heart.
