I assume you have all educated yourselves on what Philemon's intentions and goals are for this city in his latest charade, or you would not be wasting your time humoring that ludicrous and insipid excuse for literature.

Now, what about Nyarlathotep? Have any of you figured out anything about his plans for this city, or are you more concerned with petty child's play?

I'm afraid I'm quite new here myself, and am not familiar with these individuals - the Philemon and Nyarlathotep you speak of. You obviously seem to know of them, so would you care to inform a curious fellow what exactly he's in for?

What does Nyarlathotep ever desire? What the sum of all mankind believes it deserves.

To that end, to understand his design for this place, one must understand this world as a whole.

Some have made an effort, but most have not.

They call themselves the embodiments of humanity's collective unconscious: Philemon the desire to succeed and create, Nyarlathotep the desire to destroy and fail. It's their power that grants us the ability of "Persona."

It is also by their power that most of the people here will meet their end, should they chose to continue to overlook their true nature and fester in idiocy instead.

I don't know what Nyarlathotep's plans are. I can only make logical guesses, based on information I learned from another.

Whether or not people understand what he is, it is more important to know what his actions than his motivations. I don't care about the latter.

They're likely waiting until he reveals himself to them; but by then it'll be too late.

A "guess" isn't good enough. If he abided by simple logic, he wouldn't be known as a herald of chaos.

It's a situation that they've constructed before. Honestly, they act like children, who don't have any understanding of the hell they put their pets through.

Simply put, you're correct. I refuse to play along with their games any longer.
However, whether that involves any sort of "forging" is up for debate.
After all, the only way to win any of their games can only be not to play.
I do this out of no form of admirability or kindness.

The names certainly sound familiar, but unless I've found my way into a book I'm not sure what they mean in this context.

You would wait for him to pop up and give you a speech like some villain from a movie, but he'll only show himself like that when his victory has been assured, and you'll be too late to save anyone.
And while you wait, you'll waste your time on petty things like rumors and gossip.
So what if that was the first time you'd seen him? Does that mean you have to wait for him to come again on his own terms to meet you at your own disadvantage?

I agree with your assessment, ultimately, though you seem to be lacking one key piece of the puzzle.
Even without the depth of understanding, information given will allow others to subvert the game they play.
Man is usually unaware of their schemes until it is too late, as you've said.
Therefore, whatever control you can remove from the crawling chaos' grasp is more for mankind themselves to take.

It is not required, nor does it have to be noble.

It's possible you've heard them before: Philemon is a figure from the New Testament of the Christian Bible, who was on the receiving end of one of Paul's Epistles. He's also mentioned as a figure from Carl Jung's writing, as an old spirit guide.

Nyarlathotep is another name for the Crawling Chaos, an outer god from the work of H.P. Lovecraft, who is described as a nightmare and able to take on any form.

Here, they are beings who claim to be born of humanity: Philemon our desire to create and succeed, Nyarlathotep our desire to die and destroy. It was Philemon you met upon entering this city, utilizing us as his latest pawns in his bet with Nyarlathotep.

I know quite a bit. My friends and I encountered him directly when we were still in our own world. We were set up to oppose him.

I thought Philemon sent the ones that went to that tower - I thought maybe we were sent to help. If nothing else, to at least spread some light to the place. Some hope. I honestly wanted to bring the people trapped there here, if I could.

...we couldn't. Whether that was Nyarlathotep's fault, whether it was all a wild goose chase from the start, whether it was the fault of the tower's administrators, or whether it was some combination of those, I can't say. I don't even know if we did anything at all.

But I can't...I can't let myself think like that. I just can't. I have to think that some kind of message at least got through...
