I assume you have all educated yourselves on what Philemon's intentions and goals are for this city in his latest charade, or you would not be wasting your time humoring that ludicrous and insipid excuse for literature.

Now, what about Nyarlathotep? Have any of you figured out anything about his plans for this city, or are you more concerned with petty child's play?

They call themselves the embodiments of humanity's collective unconscious: Philemon the desire to succeed and create, Nyarlathotep the desire to destroy and fail. It's their power that grants us the ability of "Persona."

It is also by their power that most of the people here will meet their end, should they chose to continue to overlook their true nature and fester in idiocy instead.

Oh, is that so? Then this is quite the interesting predicament we've been pulled into, then, to say the least...

It's a situation that they've constructed before. Honestly, they act like children, who don't have any understanding of the hell they put their pets through.

Well, that is often the way things go with higher beings - a fact of life, I suppose. It's rather fascinating to see how humanity deals with it, though!

Such beings shouldn't be meddling in our affairs.

As it stands, it doesn't seem like they're dealing with it at all.

Oh? Well, it's a bit too late to be saying that, now isn't it?

It doesn't, does it? They'll either rise to the challenge, or simply fall by the wayside when things come to a head - that's all there is to it.

Worrying about a teen romance novel is not exactly what I'd call "rising to the challenge."

I never said that it was - that quite firmly falls into the 'falling by the wayside' category, to be quite honest. Much as humanity can do some amazing things, they are quite easily distracted away from important things. Rather amusing, really.

That's not a very good punchline for any kind of comedy act.

Well, this particular world doesn't concern me, so in a manner of speaking... Yes.

Provided I can get home and back to my own work, I have little investment in this world.

Then my inquiry isn't directed at you.

But just for fun; suppose the destruction of everyone here prevented you from returning?

I imagined as such, given my own prior lack of knowledge about the situation. I've sated my curiosity, however.

If it prevented me from going home...?

That would be unfortunate. I do hate to get personally involved if it's not necessary, but that would certainly qualify as 'necessary'.

Seeing as you've become a pawn of Philemon, then I would be prepared to make 'necessary' measures.

I suppose I'll have to, as I can't say I'm interested in being the pawn of someone like him.

Wouldn't involving yourself just make you more of a pawn?

Perhaps, but necessary measures are not always favorable ones.

Sounds to me you've just fallen right into a trap.

The question, however, is if the trap will hold.

I've only seen the constraints broken when the entire establishment falls apart.

Of course that also means crushing whatever was inside.

Well, there's more than one way to escape a trap.

Especially if it wasn't made for you.

Is it that simple? It's easy for a fox to get stuck in a bear trap.

Ah... Not quite. Perhaps more like a fox in a mousetrap, in this case.

To get trapped there in the first place-- that's not a very smart fox, is it?

Saying such a thing implies that I had a choice in coming here, though - which I did not.
