I assume you have all educated yourselves on what Philemon's intentions and goals are for this city in his latest charade, or you would not be wasting your time humoring that ludicrous and insipid excuse for literature.

Now, what about Nyarlathotep? Have any of you figured out anything about his plans for this city, or are you more concerned with petty child's play?

What do you know?

My friend and I had first-hand experience with him back home.
I know that if things carry on as they seem to be, there's not going to be much time for playing hero.

And then what would you suggest?

Shutting up about something that has accomplished the bare qualifications of "literature" would be a good start.
And maybe a re-examining of priorities.

Aside from the obvious. Some of us have little loyalty to any established order. Is there a reason to care one way or another?

Refreshing; but unfortunately, as we're here on Philemon's terms and under the government's care, it's likely that both will see to have us aid their own cause.
And given the damage any side can cause, remaining loyal to neither might prove to be difficult.

And what course of action are you going to take?

I've dealt with them before.
I intend to retain my neutrality.
But the first step is always learning more about your enemy and the situation.
That's my intention.

I'm not partial to being a plaything of either of them myself.

Then it's good to hear there are a few that don't like to be made a total fool of.
I suggest try to keep them from doing so.

Outside of investigation, do you have any other suggestions as to how to do so?

You could always do nothing.

In regards to them? It's difficult to say what will net a result in favour of either, though. Assuming higher beings operate on a similar mental wavelength as mortals do is a bit foolish.

Ordinarily I'd agree; but even though they possess some twisted divine awareness, but the fact that they are humanity itself can still lend them to human error.
They're certainly stubborn enough to be human.

So essentially, unless you do nothing but sit like a lump, it's hopeless.

I certainly haven't figured out a way to defeat them yet. But that solution's a bit ungraceful.

Defeating them? If they're not infinite then perhaps that's possible, though I do see how that would be a rather difficult proposition.

Maybe not "indefinite defeat"-- I suppose that wouldn't be entirely possible. Striking them down like you or me is probably nigh impossible, actually.
But you can't fault anyone for wanting to try.

What is it that you hope to accomplish?

I want to see them both lose.

Honestly, I don't know.
But since I've been displaced here, I have nothing left to lose.
So I'd rather see them crash and burn.

Well it's not my world, and I can't really go home.
To be honest I don't really care about the city.

It's not any of our homes. Even though it seems to be trying to make itself that way.

[Though the castle isn't really his home... who knows where his home actually is?]

I don't have any attachment to any of it. I just want to know more about it. When we have the whole picture then we can make our own way.
