I assume you have all educated yourselves on what Philemon's intentions and goals are for this city in his latest charade, or you would not be wasting your time humoring that ludicrous and insipid excuse for literature.

Now, what about Nyarlathotep? Have any of you figured out anything about his plans for this city, or are you more concerned with petty child's play?

Yes. Attacking bonds of all degrees is something he's done in the past.

But if it's a power anyone can use, why not use it against him?

Nyarlathotep and Philemon are simply names, words of power which are static. They are like any other fixture of the world; left will always be left, and right will always be right. Despite their claims and their birth, they have no ability to develop.

In contrast, mankind can always change. There is always a future, and so long as humanity lives, they will continue to grow. There is no end to man's potential.

Please, do not mistake me- I have seen the burden freedom has imposed upon man. To that end, I can never apologize enough. But mankind's strength is in their will and their growth, not in their actions.

Perhaps. Call it an... intellectual curiosity. Ideally it'll actually lead somewhere.
I'm sure there will be plenty demons and monsters for you to knock out to your heart's content.
Just make sure you're fighting the sign you deem appropriate.

Chaos is as much an attribute of humanity as is law.
It's possible he's working through the Anoli itself to inspire chaos and division. But as it stands, it seems to be ineffective of completely destroying anything, seeing as the city is still standing.

So you're like me, and stuck at an impasse, Deadman. Hate have to say it to you, but looks like this war's our ticket out of our respective worlds, and if you get removed from it, you're going back there.

I don't think they'll give you a super-special timeout while everyone else is out there trying fighting.

Seeing as you've become a pawn of Philemon, then I would be prepared to make 'necessary' measures.

I met him when he talked about Philemon and Nyarlathotep on the network before.

At this point, I'm not sure if it's his doing or Philemon's doing.
But I suspect it's the same power that's letting them come true here.
We tried, but public opinion is a dangerous thing to play with.
We only made the barest attempts to prevent anything from going wrong.

I suppose I'll have to, as I can't say I'm interested in being the pawn of someone like him.

The problem is mindset, not freedom. I can't believe anyone will grow or change when I've yet to see evidence of such.

It'd be more reassuring to know and have some reassurance than bumble around in the dark.
But I have no intention of taking part in their game anymore.

I think you have a bit of a tactical advantage here, considering you're dealing with a large group of people who know who Philemon and Nyarlathotep are. Or who can learn by accessing this network. It isn't quite like trying to sway the opinions of innocent bystanders.

That's a simple solution, really. A bit of properly applied external motivation works wonders.

I'm not gonna ask but it sounds like you've seen it first hand.

I asked because people usually "evolve" by banding together or becoming united on a certain front. If the bonds people have here are disrupted, broken, or destroyed, then I doubt the people here will have any chance of survival. There's apparently nothing beyond this city and, if that's true, then everyone here needs to band together more than ever. The growing rifts are hindering that.

The frickin city mayor doesn't exactly help with that, but still, it's a real headache.

Then call me Switzerland. Put me in the middle of the battlefield, but I have no intention of aiding either side.

I'd rather be in No Man's Land than give them the satisfaction of playing along.

Persona being common knowledge is helpful-- but I have no idea how much normal people know about the entire conflict. To be able to successfully change something with rumors, you'd have to get a majority of the city to belief.
Belief is a dangerous thing to play with, no matter the circumstances.

Don't worry, I believe him. I already promised to help him investigate what's going on. We were going to ask Igor about everyone else disappearing, but then they all came back before the Velvet Room did.

Well, don't let me stop you from that! Looks like you're getting attention, anyway. Are tons of questions asking you to repeat yourself really what you wanted? Ah... yeah. I'm not really looking for a fight, either. Not unless it comes to me? It's just something I'm good at.

Government officials are rarely any help where it counts.
Unfortunately that just seems to be a symptom of organized society.
However, I think you've hit the nail on the head.
Containing a city filled with dissent to this area makes it a ticking time bomb, waiting to explode upon itself.
It's likely that Nyarlathotep has had a hand in creating that dissent.
