01 - [Video]

[There's a scrambling sound and a few mutterings of "you turn on the video over here, don't you?" before the video finally turns out, showing the somewhat morose face of one (1) Sam Erstwhile, disheveled brown hair almost covering his eyes. He glances away with a slight frown.]

Um, right, what was I going to say here...

[And then a nod as he looks back up.]

Right! Right. Erm, yeah. Hello to all of you, I guess. I'm Sam and...I just arrived a few days ago, so I'm sorry if I'm still new to all of this.

[He tries his best at a smile, but it's kind of a pathetic try, at best- his mouth just quirks upward for one second before dropping down to it's usual position.]

I...I just am a little confused, honestly. I mean, people have told me about the Persona thing and the fact that we have to fight monsters and all, but, I mean, why were we chosen in the first place? I know plenty of other people who would be way better at this than me. And it's not like I applied or anything, so...what's so special about me?

[He sighs, scratching the back of his head.] Somebody I talked to before talked about how they choose us based on our souls, but...I just want to hear what other people think. I'm not really interested in why we were chosen, more like how we were chosen, if that makes sense. What sets us apart from all the other people from where we come from?

Because, I dunno...I think they made a really huge mistake when they chose me.

Oh man, same here, it's just impossible trying to figure it out.

I haven't even seen mine, let alone making it work. Somebody said you have to be frightened or something to make it appear, though?

It's.... a lot easier if there's a crisis going on. But it would be nice if I could figure out how to summon it all the time.

I don't really wanna fight demons with an unreliable weapon like that...

Yeah, same here! I don't want to get eaten by demons, and if this is the only thing that can protect me...

Then yeah, I'd rather have it way more convenient to have, really.

It might not be. If you had any special powers in your home world, then they should still work here.

[After all, Chrome's already tested her illusions and Tsuna's dying will still works.]

What if you don't have any powers whatsoever? I'm pretty normal...

[dame_tsuna]

Then I guess you could practice using your persona. Or just try to avoid the demons...

[primordial]

[Of course, the "no powers" thing is a big lie, but Sam just nods, as if taking those into consideration.]

Yeah, avoiding will probably be my main thing. And I'd love to use my persona if, you know, I could actually find a way to activate it.

You could try practicing with a partner or something. Like a sparring match.

It's easiest when you're actually in danger, but that might not be the best way to practice.

[primordial]

Um...that would be easy if I actually knew how to fight in the first place.

At this point, danger might look like the best option.

[dame_tsuna]

You're a lot braver than I am....


But, before you do anything too dangerous, there might be someone around who can teach you how to fight. Learning the basics might help.

What? Who, me, brave? That's the last thing I am! I'm just saying it would be easier. Scarier, but easier.

Oh, like who? Do I just go and advertize, or what?

I kind of prefer safer to easier...

[He shrugs.]

You'd be surprised actually. Just put a call about it on the network, and I bet someone will respond.

Yeah, maybe you're right...but I would just want to get it over with.

Really? People are that nice around here?

Not everyone. But there's enough people who are that nice, so you shouldn't have any trouble.

Alright. So you're saying I have a good chance either way...

I'll try it out then, see who comes forward. Thanks for the advice.
