[text] attention everyone shut the hell up

I assume you have all educated yourselves on what Philemon's intentions and goals are for this city in his latest charade, or you would not be wasting your time humoring that ludicrous and insipid excuse for literature.

Now, what about Nyarlathotep? Have any of you figured out anything about his plans for this city, or are you more concerned with petty child's play?

You know him.
He no doubt knows you are here.
If you attempt to forge a path, you know he will find a way to bring harm to your efforts. It's all he knows.
And yet you still refuse his game, as well as Philemon's?

Mankind truly is admirable.

I as well, though not personally or directly.

I agree with your assessment, ultimately, though you seem to be lacking one key piece of the puzzle.
Even without the depth of understanding, information given will allow others to subvert the game they play.
Man is usually unaware of their schemes until it is too late, as you've said.
Therefore, whatever control you can remove from the crawling chaos' grasp is more for mankind themselves to take.

It is not required, nor does it have to be noble.
But you would not have brought this discussion up if you did not care.

All will not pay attention.
But those that do listen will carry the information to others.
Mankind is not ignorant, or hopeless. If given care, they can bring about miracles. They can fight any fate, and make their own future.

This is the truth about humanity. One neither Philemon or Nyarlathotep understand- they do not desire enlightenment or death. Man wants freedom. And they will have it.

You can stay out of this conflict, and hold your information. You have that choice. I wish you only the best luck in tending to those you care about.

Isn't that mandkind's power, though? It goes beyond their decisions and actions as individuals- and surpasses the rabble of groups and petty squabbles. Humanity is made up of all of these parts, and yet, humanity is still here.

Yours was not the first trial a god unfairly taxed humanity with. I do not doubt you are not aware of that. But even in those places, those times, there have been people letting their attention wander. There were those who sought the simple in place of the complex. And yet they still did what had to be done, and fought for their beliefs and desires.

You do not wish to once again save the world, no doubt. I cannot make you do or believe anything, nor would I desire to do such.

But I ask you to please see humanity for all of itself. Do not let Nyarlathotep's trials burden your heart against it. They will be lax, and make mistakes, and they may take too long, but that is their freedom. That is why they survive. It is something no god can truly take from man, and something no man should relish in return.

You do make a good point.

Even in the face of overwhelming odds, humanity is not to be underestimated. That desire for freedom has brought quite a number of higher beings - gods included - to their end.

Nyarlathotep and Philemon are simply names, words of power which are static. They are like any other fixture of the world; left will always be left, and right will always be right. Despite their claims and their birth, they have no ability to develop.

In contrast, mankind can always change. There is always a future, and so long as humanity lives, they will continue to grow. There is no end to man's potential.

Please, do not mistake me- I have seen the burden freedom has imposed upon man. To that end, I can never apologize enough. But mankind's strength is in their will and their growth, not in their actions.

That's a simple solution, really. A bit of properly applied external motivation works wonders.

Mindset is a fickle, ever-flowing thing.

Though you see them now doting on a fad, or intrigued by silly gossip, they have and will continue to 'buckle down'.

Your concerns are valid, but they do not need anyone to guide them.

No, for every man is entitled their opinion. But in that turn, they are allowed to rest, as you are allowed to see this behavior as callous.

You claim to not care about anything but your interests.

If that were truly the case, then why not gather those you worry for and leave this city? It is a spoken possibility. I do not know how one does it myself, but the option exists.

That is not wrong.

And it is no worse than people taking solace here, in menial things. Growing stronger, working towards a goal. Trying to reach out and bond with others.

Do you see?

[Alcor, eventually, shifts to video. He can't hope to express this with text, even if mankind's languages are lovely to look at. He doesn't seem to be actually in a building or anything, but is instead sitting with his back to a tree trunk.]

A dear friend of mine is one of them. He has nowhere to return to but the afterlife. Since arriving here, I have seen him grow and flourish beyond what he was capable of in our world. There have been ups and downs, and he has done trivial and pointless things. But, I'm...very proud of him. He has learned to be braver than I ever gave him credit for.

My dear friend is not the only one who has come here from a horrible point, nor are your friends the only ones Nyarlathotep has harmed so directly. You are no doubt aware of that.

[Alcor sighed, eyes fluttering closed.]

What is trivial to you may be all that is keeping someone else going. Please, have patience.

[It's faint, but there's a trace of sadness on his ridiculous albino face. Eventually, Alcor placed his fingers to his chin, sobering up significantly.]

You are still wounded from Nyarlathotep, I can see that in your will. And while I cannot ever claim to know what transpired, I am aware of him as a concept, and know what he is capable of doing.

I cannot expect you to care, however I do care. It is my design. I chose to watch over humanity, and I will not turn my back to a single one of you.

[Alcor's tone shifted at the blunt sentence, from sad to something much more...still. Assured, at least.]

You may not need it, but that does not mean I will stop.

My existence is to ensure that gods such as Nyarlathotep, or Eli, or Polaris do not push their will upon mankind.

And I will not give this duty up.
