[The video feed flicks on to show DeDeDe standing in front of a well-stocked bar. The lighting is low at the moment, as there's still no electricity in the club, but enough sunlight is filtering through the windows to make the scene visible. The massive penguin man quirks an eyebrow and gives a small upnod before offering a casual wave.]

Afternoon, Hinoto-Ri. Seems this city's even more generous than I thought.

[He gestures behind him.]

It's seen fit to return a little business venture I was runnin' back home. Now I've never been one to look a gift horse in the mouth, and seein' as it's here and I'm here, I'm plannin' to reopen for business in a couple of weeks. This here's the Penguin's Nest, in the Taurus District right down the same street as that pirate bar and Nyx's place. I'm lookin' to turn it into a respectable establishment where adults can go to enjoy a few drinks, a little music, and the pleasure of each other's company.

[In other words, it's a sex club.]

'Course, a place like this don't just run itself, so I'm lookin' for some local talent to help me keep the place up. Bartenders, bouncers, dancers, musicians... you got somethin' you can do that you think might fit in here, you just give me a holler and we'll see if we can't work somethin' out.

Don't got much in the way of signage right now, so just look for the warehouse with the door marked 'Private Entrance.' I'll be lookin' to remodel the place a bit to draw in some more business once we get up and runnin'. I'll be here 'til it gets dark if you'd rather hash things out face to beak. Just ask for DeDeDe.

[He flashes a grin at the feed.]

Well, for one, it's bein' run by a visitor. I'm sure Nyx is a well-respected face 'round here who knows how to cater to the tastes of the people of Hinoto-Ri, but the out of towners need to stick together too. I'm sure you've seen the way the townies look at us. It ain't exactly what you'd call a friendly atmosphere.

Now that's not to say they're not welcome too - as long as they're spendin' and show a little respect, I couldn't give a fuck who walks in my door. But I thought it'd be nice to have a place to relax a bit without gettin' a hole stared through you for a change.

yeah i noticed how weird theyve been acting. it even spreads to the police force in case you didn't know how deep it goes. man its just plain rude when you try helping somebody and they look at you funny!

i think youve got the right idea there. but you should probably abandon the idea of the natives ever coming in there. you cant outright put a sign on there either but with that attitude... unless their interested in giant talking penguins but i doubt that'll carry? or carry at all

I've seen this kind of thing before. When it gets ugly, it gets real ugly. I get what you're sayin', but I'm not one to burn bridges, either. If I close my doors to the natives or scare 'em off ever comin' in at all, that's just one more on a long list of reasons for them to hate us. But I figure there's just as many of 'em out there that hate the government and the Anoli, too. Might not be so bad to have people like that in your corner when push comes to shove, if you get my drift. You don't win a turf war without the hearts of the people, believe you me. Not that I'm fixin' to get caught up in another one of those anytime soon.

[He pauses for a moment to think.]

Well... I guess I'll see where things go once we're up and runnin'. I'll be havin' a little sit-down with Nyx before then to hash things out and see what kind of a niche this place can fill. A little friendly competition never hurt anybody, and it never hurts to get chummy with the neighbors when you're new in town. All the clientele needs to know is that the girls are clean and the drinks ain't watered down. The rest usually takes care of itself.

its nice that youve got it all down pat

i can tell you one thing for sure: the idea sounds really awesome. itd be great if it worked out! just what about the non big spenders? like the visitors who dont have enough on them to well you know 'make it rain' and stuff? is there anything they could offer in return? like say if they were interested in making the place successful

but said visitors are also a bit too 'busy' to do any of that prescribed stuff you said. do you get what i mean? i mean theres always something those people could offer right?

I reckon I could find a thing or two for them to do around the place. Desperate times, after all. I won't turn away anyone who's willing to work, 'specially if it gives the place something a little unique to brag about.

[He's got to skirt around this somewhat carefully, as Adachi did briefly mention working for the police before. DeDeDe isn't going to show his hand until he knows what kind of cop he's dealing with, though he's already starting to suspect the answer.]

theyd have to see though... if its worth the risk and all because youve really gotta one up her? itd be fun seeing how that panned out

like you said its pretty just a matter of time and whatnot. who even knows if nyx is agreeable or not! though you seem pretty smooth so you should be able to talk your way through right?

its still a bit risky to decide things like that so soon though. you understand right?

Eh, I've negotiated with worse and come out on top. You just gotta speak the right language. But nobody ever made it anywhere by not tryin', so I figure I'll at least get a feel for what I'm gettin' myself into here.

You're right about that, though. If you want to run a successful business, you gotta do one of two things: offer somethin' nobody else does, or the same thing either cheaper or better quality. That's Business 101 right there.
