5th Whistle ["anon" text]

[Now those who know Blues, which probably isn't a lot of people, will find this post to be really really strange. More or less because he thinks he posted it under the guise of anon and well.

them tricksy pixies went and fixed that. So while he is very sure this was posted as anon? It ain't.]

So.

Say you have a machine, it's from your world but it has a flaw. One that you can't actually fix yourself because well. You can't.

It wouldn't go well if you tried, but getting someone else to repair it is a bit tricky. Because you don't want it to be changed too much, but you want it to be working properly. And there is the fact that you don't know any of the people who could fix it nor how good they are at what they do.

[wow, so rambly there get to the pooooooooooooint.]

I guess what I'm saying here is this; who here is good with machines?

I couldn't help but notice my name mentioned earlier...

[Atsuro couldn't help but make a filter that identified all non-private recordings of his name in audio or text, actually.]

I'm Atsuro. Minako's right; I'm more of a programmer kind of guy, but I know enough about computer hardware to put together my own, if that's the kind of thing that will help.

[He tried to eavesdrop only on the conversations that mentioned him directly if he could help it. Atsuro's response comes after a slight pause.]

I can deal with the protecting the programming side of it, anyway. You won't find anyone better in my world - OK, that's not true, but the guy I learn from probably isn't too interested in altruism or anything along those lines.

More likely to work just for the excitement of working on something interesting, too.

I don't really need payment. We get room and board for free, and I get paid enough at my job to keep up with my hobbies already.

You don't... eat?

[Suddenly Atsuro has an inkling of what this project might entail.]

Would the programming errors you're tasking me to keep from happening have any critical impact on the continued survival of say, a sentient life form?

Ah.

...I'm guessing it's a little more complicated than making a backup before working on the hardware. I mean, that's just good practice in general, but.

Well, I could make my best stab at it, although I can't say I've worked extensively with AI before. I think what you need is a robotics expert. You'll get more competent volunteers if you make your needs a little more clear.

Right.

...Well, if hypothetically, you need someone to do some robotics in the future, you should probably make your request clear so you'll get the right kind of people. I'd still be happy to try and help, though.

Sure. ...It doesn't hurt to be careful.

I have a friend here who's a robot. I'd feel a lot better knowing there would be someone available who could tune her up if something were to happen.
