[Now those who know Blues, which probably isn't a lot of people, will find this post to be really really strange. More or less because he thinks he posted it under the guise of anon and well.

So.

Say you have a machine, it's from your world but it has a flaw. One that you can't actually fix yourself because well. You can't.

It wouldn't go well if you tried, but getting someone else to repair it is a bit tricky. Because you don't want it to be changed too much, but you want it to be working properly. And there is the fact that you don't know any of the people who could fix it nor how good they are at what they do.

I guess what I'm saying here is this; who here is good with machines?

"AI maintenance and repair is my chief training. I've done it several times. The hardest part is making sure the AI's data core isn't altered, which is why you want to keep it powered on even when the body is shut down."

I see. And yes, it's very important none of the programming ends up altered.

"AI's have just as much right to sentience as anyone else, just because their neural pathways are all ready mapped out people forget that. But is this an academic question or is one of the local AI's suffering from a damaged power core?"

[Oh boy. Blues is just going to lie like a fiend here, since he's also getting hassled by Rock, that and he doesn't exactly want it publicly known he has... issues.]

An academic hypothetical, Miss.

"Well then hypothetically if I had a copy of the power system's schematic I could create a 3D simulation of the entire process and tell the feasibility of replacement or repair given local tools. It may be an interesting intellectual exercise while I look for some things that have gone missing."

Sadly this hypothetical doesn't have schematics to loan you, sorry.

"That does make it harder for any theoretical work. I guess I could swap out with data from one of the AI's I've met here, but that may be rather impersonal. I'd have to get permission first."

That and I doubt that many of them have a prototype power system.

"Prototypes are just the first stage in a refined production base. That being said the refinements can be rolled back to prototype stage. I know Omoikane gets upset whenever I suggest standardizing his reactors. Apparently prototype sounds cooler."

[okay that... might have made Blues chuckle.]

It might sound "cooler" but it also means "old" and "outdated".

"Where I come from, if people have a damaged organ, they have nanomachines that can rebuild it to a more modern spec. Just because a part needs upgrade doesn't mean the whole is useless and outdated. Omoikane is one of the older prototype AI's and he's worlds smarter than most of the military ones. He just has more personality. Anyways, I'll begin working on a hypothetical rendering over the schematics of the female android that needed repair and see what I can come up with."

Yeah that doesn't happen in my world. At least not that I'm aware of.

[Female android who needed repairs, huh? He's not gonna ask, he's guessing something probably happened with someone and he doubts anything Ruri does could apply to him.]

"Contact me in a week or so. I'll have a 3d holo of my thoughts on the thing."

I don't know you, Miss, but I can provide schematics for a, ah, similar power system - as long as you don't let on that you have them, or tell where you got them from.

Ruri looks at the message and lets out a deep sigh.

"I've been offering my services to all the AI's trapped here and Omoikane stores the schematics from the repair. I can just say I pulled them from the database I've built. Its really no different than the ones built by the doctors at the hospital."

That works. And I apologize for the oddness of the situation - Blues and I are brothers of a sort, and we've got some family issues, to say the least.

"Is this a prototype vs. production unit issue? Because in my experience its how one acts, not what version of software that matters."

Sort of...

Something went wrong with how his power core was installed, but I don't know what, exactly - but Blues is technically the prototype for me and the other robots like me at home, so I would imagine my schematics can't be too far off.

How one acts, though, that's a big part of. I've offered to help him, but he keeps blowing me off.

"Did your creator abandon him after the faulty installation? I know it sounds terrible but back home some of the prototype AI's went rogue because the teams that made them thought they were flawed and tried to shut them down."

No, no! Dr. Light didn't abandon Blues. He intended to fix the problem, but things happened - he said some things he didn't mean or think through due to stress over the power core issue, and Blues ran away in the middle of the night.

"Did he try and power down his neural cortex?"

I don't think so - as far as I know, Dr. Light never even got to get started on attempting the repairs before Blues took off. I can't say for certain, because this was before I was built, but Dr. Light has no reason to lie to me about what happened.

"Understood. I'll see what I can do for your brother."

Thanks a lot - I really do appreciate it! Just remember not to mention anything about me to Blues.

"I offer repair services to any AI in town and my computer maps out their design for efficiency. It's plausible that you may have stopped by the Nadesico at some point for repairs. I won't lie, but since I've added this to my database, I'll just say that's where I got it from."
