[Otoha hasn't really noticed what's going on around the city. It's not like he's not usually honest about most things anyway. But tonight has him sitting on a rooftop, staring out at the city. He's asked this question before, in a different place, but he still wants answers. He's never found an answer that's satisfied him.]

Why do people think that killing people is wrong? Sometimes it's the fastest solution for a problem. Yeah, people will be sad, but they'll get over it. It's kind of a pain when people get so upset whenever it's brought up.

Just because it's the fastest solution doesn't mean it's the best one.

From the sound of it moral arguments aren't going to work, so I'll stick with "Causes more problems than it solves." But honestly I just kind of have a visceral aversion to it.

Police attention, normal people's attention... people dying means questions get asked, even if no one's sure what happened. And you can't just solve that one by killing people; that just ends with everybody dead. [And you losing your hat. And any plan where you lose your hat is...?]

It's part of how I keep the Beast in check. [Whoops, he hadn't meant to say that.] Honestly, I just don't like it. I'll do it if I absolutely have to, but for some reason an awful lot of people seem to think it has to be done a lot more than I do. If I really need somebody dead, it means someone else has probably screwed up badly somewhere.

Because a life is not yours to take. Yes, it is a solution, and no, that doesn't stop people from doing it.

... Not always. Diplomacy is usually just a token effort and ends with dead messengers. The world isn't as nice as people like to think it is.

Because the person who dies can't "get over it." They died. Death isn't the solution to anything - in fact, it's that feeling that's the cause of a lot of other problems.

Morality differs from person to person though. I grew up with death and murder not even warranting more than a few words and maybe a beer.

Some people don't get over it. People get close to other people, and have feelings - emotions - over them. It may the fastest solution for certain types of problems, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it's the best.
