[Considering a certain request she received, Miyako was stuck on how to handle this. She’s not the most social and outgoing of people. She is active, but Miyako knew very well she’s not the best possible person to advise that man about this. She only accepted the request for her own reasons.

How do you get someone to be more social and active?

And get them to pick up a hobby?

Something like that; but it's an imprecise method of introducing someone to a hobby. Their interests aren't foolproof, either. Just because you like trains doesn't mean you'll enjoy building them. The problem with hobbies are that they're things people don't often talk about doing and enjoying. If you ask someone what they like, they might say music, which would make you think they'd enjoy playing an instrument, even though what they really enjoy is something like nonfiction writing.

You'll really have to dig to get that information out of them.

You could pick a kind of bird and a different spot in the city, see how many of that kind of bird you saw within a couple of hours? With cell phones and computers and all, you could probably set up something to record it. Loser buys the winner an ice cream or something?

First of all, make sure that someone is interested, babe! You can't change someone, just work with them! Don't force, gently prod and offer to help them yourself!

But most importantly...let your heart be your guide. If you yourself show that you have an interest in a hobby and want to share that love to someone else, it'll only work if you believe in that hobby yourself. You know what I'm saying?
