No matter how many monsters I beat, I can't level up. I know this isn't The World, but since I'm in my body from there I should be able to level up, right?

It's not working and it's really annoying.

There aren't any quests or events to do either. It's annoying.

She smiles brightly at that before floating over directly next to you.

"Final Boss Power!"

And with that, there is an axe in your hand.

It's a little startling to have this kind of weapon in his hand, and he hefts it (her?) carefully, making sure not to drop her. He definitely does feel stronger.

... Welp. Time to kill some monsters. Heading out now!

As you heft Desco's axe form, a strange sound comes out of her. It's almost like she's...purring?

...well, probably not a big deal.

As you reach a small intersection, the mouth-blade on the left starts to open and close, almost like she's chewing something. Maybe there's monsters in that direction?

Well that's... weird. But he keeps going.

He'll be following her directions now... huh. This isn't so bad. ... Hopefully he can stand up in direct combat though.

Half a block after you turn left, some strange shadows with glowing gold eyes ooze out of the darkness. In your hands, Desco gives a brief shudder of anticipation, her two mouth-blades snapping excitedly.

He hesitates, his first instinct to stay back and attack from a distance, but he's got a melee weapon right now. He walks forwards and swings at one of them, trying to hit it as hard as he can.

Right now, you only possess a tenth of Desco's strength. On the other hand, Desco's strength score is a solid four hundred thousand.

The Shadow basically ceases to exist as a coherent object, instead becoming a pair of very fast-moving projectiles that slam into several of the other Shadows before completely vanishing in a puff of shadowy smoke.

In your hands, Desco lets out a sound that is half delighted purr and half childlike laughter.

The strength stat is pretty much the dump stat for Wavemasters, so this is very new for him.

... He pats Desco on the top of the axe, trying to be... somehow comforting? He doesn't even know anymore.

A fairly orthodox response to interacting with Desco, honestly.

Meanwhile, around you, the Shadows are multiplying - apparently they can summon backup?

The golden eye set between the two mouth-blades rolls wildly in its socket, taking in the entire battlefield as several of the smaller protrusions on the axe start to writhe.

Someone's having fun, at least!

Ew ew ew gross. Tsukasa takes a deep breath and rushes towards one, except...

He falls on his face, Desco skittering out of his hands.

With a puff of smoke, Desco's Magichange is canceled, an extremely disappointed look on her face. She floats over to where you are and hauls you up through main force, summoning her Persona and letting loose with a burst of flame as she does so.

The Agi spell flies over the heads of the gathered Shadows, mostly intended as a distraction rather than any sort of attempt to destroy them. When Desco speaks, it's with a sort of forced calmness.

"Let's try again. This time, Desco will allow you to use her killer skill ⌠Tyrant Ball⌡, alright?"

With that, she changes back into an axe.

She seemed just this side of angry, there. Might be best not to drop her again.

"S... sorry. I'm not used to using physical attacks."

He hefts her again, and waits for the monsters to get closer this time before he lashes out and swings. This is... actually kind of fun. He hasn't played a melee character in a long time - wait.

"... Did I ever play a melee character?"

He can't even remember. Memories of other games are... fuzzy. He pushes past a threatening headache to chop the head off of one of the monsters.

As you swing through the Shadow, Desco snaps the flying head out of the air with a decisive crunch of her jaws. Then, as a cluster of Shadows advances, Desco makes good on her word and releases the seal on the skill Tyrant Ball.

Right now, the sound she is making is a cross between her previous satisfied purring and a sort of anticipatory hiss.

Tsukasa raises the axe and activates the skill, trying not to shudder at all of the tentacles. He tosses her up in the air and leaps up after her, crashing down. The shockwave and rocks make short work of the relatively weak enemies, and Tsukasa grins despite himself.

"I don't think any of the Heavy Axe weapons in The World can do something like that."

Desco giggles at that comment, a light blush spreading over her mouth-blades. She's riding high on the euphoria of combat.

Meanwhile, the Tyrant Ball attack wiped out a good chunk of the Shadows - there's only a few stragglers left!

Tsukasa heads for them, bringing Desco down on them to smash them into bits. He's a little surprised at the power he can wield - he knows it's due to Desco's influence, but it's still great to feel. If only he had this kind of power in the real world...

As the last of the Shadows disappears, Desco's purring slowly trails off into a drawn-out, satisfied sigh.

Right now she is one happy axe.

Welp. Tsukasa pats her on the... top of one of her mouths.

"Thanks, Desco."

This is actually kind of fun. He heads out to see what else they can find.

After about another block or so of walking, there's a strange clicking sound as three strange creatures scuttle out of the shadows. Are they scorpions or crabs or some kind of weird hybrid?

...well, it's not like Desco really cares either way, although hopefully these things will taste better than those Shadows did.

Ew. Scorpion... crab things. Tsukasa smashes one with the flat of one of Desco's mouths, and then slices through another with ease. The third tries to run, and Tsukasa brings Desco down right on its head, crushing it.

One drops a potion, and Tsukasa scoops it up.

"I needed one of these... unless you need it, Desco?"

[tyrantball]

Both of Desco's mouth-blades are busy chewing the remains of the scorpicrabs, so when she does reply, it's through the two smaller mouths set below the main ones.

"Uh-uh!"

...apparently she can still talk intelligibly when she's an axe.

... Well, okay then. He sticks it into his inventory pocket inventory and pats her on the top of the head.

"Thanks."

[tyrantball]

Desco finishes her meal and swallows noisily. It might be your imagination, but...somehow, Desco's handle feels a bit heavier. One of her smaller mouths starts speaking.

"Desco doesn't have any use for healing items, because she has four million HP."

[aurathread]

"I figured, but I thought I'd ask."

He heads off down the street, before pausing for a moment. Using an axe makes him think of Subaru, whom he hasn't thought of this clearly in a bit.

But she'd tell him to keep moving, and find something that makes him happy. He misses her, though. He takes a moment to breathe deeply, and then continues on.
