Avitus figured out how to use the network! Next task: figuring out how to use the watch.... [Video]

((A day or two after Christmas....))

The first view everyone gets is of a blue person, apparently kind of confused, looking over the camera. Because what is this thing? Still fiddling with it, probably doesn't realize it's on.... the view tilts a bit as they continue to inspect the watch, and the viewer gets to see over their shoulder. A big black shape moves a bit behind them, over said shoulder; it's a feather-covered wing. And behind it, there's... lights.

Everyone's seen the Christmas lights that've been up around the city lately... but this? It looks like some of those fancy lamps sold in specialty shops; one of them is on the wall and appears to be a garland of flowers, with a little light in the middle of each blossom. Another is on the table and looks more like a vase of flowers, more little lights in the center of each of them, matching the petal colors, plus a few shining through the colorful glass below. Another looks remarkably like a small tree of some kind, covered in clear green strands, much like tinsel, rather than leaves, but with the ends of a good few of the branches drooping down to end in more little lights. Looks rather a lot like a miniature weeping willow, actually. And one more, one which might not use little Christmas light LEDs for its glow, but looks entirely like a hanging brazier... except, that can't be fire in it; it isn't moving. Looks more like the burdie got creative and made a cover for the bulb out of stained glass that makes it look like a fire is sitting in the middle of the bowl.

The view doesn't last too long before he realizes that it's already broadcasting his video, and then he straightens it, putting on a slightly sheepish little smile and taking a breath to relax.

"H-hi. I-- my name's Avitus, and I just got here, and I... guess I'm a little late for the Solstice festival stuff that's been going on, but... I was wondering if anyone would be interested in some lamps anyway."

He shifts the view back to the little table and the wall behind it, deliberately this time, pulling his wing out of the picture. "I can do others too... I just... I was kind of messing around with these ones first, is all.

"Anyway... um... let me know if you're interested, all right?"

And he'll spend the next fifteen seconds or so trying to cut the feed. Guess who isn't used to this level of technology at all! :D

((Actually, if anyone wants, I can easily enough explain how to make any of those lamps (well, similar!) though the hanging one would potentially be trickiest. But that one need not involve actual stained glass. None of them would be particularly expensive, either... We're talking about post-holiday-sale lights, plastic like you end up with from 2-liter soda bottles, maybe some wire coat hangers, colored tissue paper, etc... stuff like that.))

Solstice festival? I think this one was called Christmas, which was celebrating the birth of the son of the God Emperor of Mankind.

I believe his son is long dead so that overweight person is someone else.

And humans, while superstitious, seem to avoid things that do not pertain to their religions.

Mm... I guess I haven't asked about their religious stuff in a while. But I'm pretty sure solstice doesn't have anything to do with religion for the ones where I live.... I think. At least, I haven't heard anything about that from my brothers....

Maybe I should ask, when I go back. There wasn't a whole lot of... much of anything, really, when I was younger. *odd little smile, but gets rid of it quickly enough, looking back to the camera*

Celebrations? We don't have holidays. I suppose we celebrate victories...

*have some more curiosity. That expression on the burd's face prolly makes them look a lot more like a kid interested in hearing a story, at the moment, than not.*

In battle, of course. We fight humans and orks and tyranids all the time.

*little pause... and those big black wings sink a few inches behind him, tucking down close to his back again*

*not just going to leave that as the only question, though!* And... the other two? What're they?

*actually, it looks rather like the burdie's pretty concerned here. This seems to be unhappy news, though at least it doesn't look like the burd's getting judgmental over it? Just... worried, maybe?*

We are more than a clan. We are an Empire, the Tau Empire. Though we would prefer not to fight at all. But humans attack us because they hate non-humans. Orks are green beasts who will fight because it is fun. Tyranids are a bug-like race that is only concerned with consuming everything in their path.

Oh...

*silent another sec, wings gone from behind him... he sort of hugs them around himself, almost below the camera's view. The smile's definitely gone now.*

They're not like that where I'm from.... We fight the other clans because they turned on us too, and... they've ended up as beasts now. The other clans did, I mean. It's just us and the humans left, that aren't.

Why do they hate everyone, where you're from? There's some sort of reason, isn't there? I mean... they kind of had one in Nosgoth....

Because their God-Emperor says so, even though he is long dead. They do what a corpse on a throne said to do thousand of years ago. If it is not human, it must die. If it's human and does not worship their god, it must also die.

....I'm glad that "god" isn't in the Citadel back home, that's for sure. Our humans aren't quite that... um.... *hm, what's a good adjective here? He's trying to come up with one, and failing.*

Violent? I can understand. We have many who live peacefully in our Empire. But billions more fight against us.

I'm not sure if that's the word. I mean, if they didn't fight, the other clans probably would've wiped everyone out a couple thousand years ago. But....

Billions, yes. They do live on a few hundred thousand planets. [Tau estimates are wrong. Over a million would be the correct answer.]

All humans have going for them is their overwhelming numbers and their Space Marines.

They... mostly only live in the Citadel now, where I'm from. Turel's clan still holds some as slaves, and we try to free those when we can, but that's been pretty difficult. And sometimes we find some that're living out in the mountains southwest of the Citadel, but that's rare....

*a small sigh* There used to be a lot of humans living with the clans, before. But planets? How would something like that-- I mean, how would one even begin to find those, to live on them?

I can't completely answer that but I've been to a few different planets.
