Well, uh

There are a lot of parts of our society that still held pretty stiffly to old traditional standings and stuff. I think the Hotsuin family was one of them at least. And for a long time people didn't like others having affiliating with people outside of their class or rank or, even age group I guess.

I don't really get it myself.

Besides, if people just went up and told someone they liked them like that, that'd be a little awkward, wouldn't it? What if that person didn't feel the same way or had another significant other!

But I think for some people, being in doubt about the answer might be better than confirming the worst option?

Plus they don't want to make someone else feel bad if it turns out it's unreciprocated. It could end up ruining a friendship you care a lot about.

Sure? I don't know how upset, but I'd feel kind of like a jerk if someone liked me and I had to tell them I didn't like them back.

It's like if a distant relative comes to visit for the Holidays and they're really excited to see you, but you feel bad because you don't remember them since the last time you saw them was when you were really little. Sort of.

Our reasons for being were all very different, even if much of the same message was expressed in all of them
