What defines humanity? At what point is someone so altered they are no longer human, and what emotions can we lose before are are not even remotely humane? I am curious.

Well gee, thanks. Have you met a lot of demons? And by demon I mean anything supernatural like ghosts, gods, goddesses, spirits, angels, actual devils and etc.

Yes. They set the galaxy aflame, turned brother against brother, and broke the back of the greatest golden age humanity had ever seen.

Still, demons here are not all like that. Me first. I mean I don't think I'd have protected Pisces with my life if I was how you describe demons.

Going back to your first question, I just remembered something I've learned back in my world: only humans can change. Demons can't. So, I think you could say it's not how altered your body is that counts, or what emotions have been removed from you, but your capacity to strive for changes in your life.

I am unsure of that. Daemons are creatures of eternal change and evolution. They are chaos.... but at the same time they seem eternal and immortal. Their character does not fundamentally alter, there are always emanations of the same primordial annihilator. There don't... learn.

Right. That sounds kinda like I'm trying to explain. Eternal, immortal, unchanging in the face of changing circumstances... humans are not like that at all. Humans adapt. Demons keep doing the same thing. A demon from a long-dead civilization is still the same demon it was all these centuries ago.

You seem to know a lot about them. [ Suspicion tinges his voice. ]

Where I come from, the world is dead. It's been replaced by a smaller, weirder world-in-waiting called the Vortex World. There are only a handful of human survivors, and the Vortex World is overrun by demons. I learned a lot just from surviving.

Why am I not surprised to learn other worlds have gone through something similar...
