If you do indeed hail from the Tokyo I have heard of... then, my home realm existed in the same land. Albeit four centuries ago - if you follow the Gregorian Calendar, around the... sixteenth century. [ If memory served. ] The modern folk call it Japan now, I presume?

'Tis a wide topic as well, but at least I can provide some pointers, I suppose.

Dress style depends quite a lot on class. The common folk don clothes practical for their occupation, though the women do invest in accessories and the like. The samurai retainer classes have more access to refined clothing, though again practicality comes first. There is formal wear and work wear even for the daimyo's family.

Though one exception is during festivals. Everyone dresses up in their best to enjoy the celebrations, regardless of status.

... I presume you are at least familiar with basic Japanese traditional costumes?

I'm pretty familiar! But most of my costumes aren't traditional. [Haha. She probably has tons more cosplays than clothes she can wear to festivals and practical clothes combined.]

Well, the basic kimono is used as a template for myriads of variations. More traditional women prefer to wear it the customary way, though the younger ladies have been experimenting.

[ Though then again the daimyo ladies wear all kinds of seemingly impossible outfits, so...? ]

If you are referring to producing original art, then no, I do not. The skill is useful in taking down observations.

Well, that's still like art. People draw from references all the time.
