[He had a small box in his hands, wrapped in brown paper. ... There were a few rips in the paper that had been taped over. Taka tried to help, apparently. He tries to keep the nervousness in his voice from showing. He's not really sure if he picked an appropriate gift.]

[It was hard not to be formal, but he was trying. He held the box out. Inside she would find a digital camera and a small photo album with a familiar picture in the first space.]

[Athena paused for a moment. She obviously knew it was her birthday, but getting a present from Simon surprised her. No.. It more than surprised her. It made her very happy. She smiled happily, taking the box.]

[Opening it, she first saw the camera. She was about to comment on the camera, but then she froze on the picture. It was the picture that he had with him. Sure she was happy to see the camera or to get anything really from him, but that picture made her go silent. After a little while, she finally showed a faint smile again. [It isn't entirely clear to him why he's going through with this. That just showing his face near Athena's apartment could be inviting a whole world of trouble. He just knows that it's something he needs to do, because it's something that Bobby Fulbright would do. His commitment to being Bobby Fulbright is nothing to scoff at.

Bobby Fulbright, who at this point in time has no idea who Athena Cykes is. Who only 'met her once' in the streets of Hinoto-Ri while he was attempting to save a cat from a tree. Who yelled at him and questioned his sense of justice. She was awfully mean to him, but a birthday is a birthday.

He makes his move later in the day, when he suspects she isn't home. He passes her apartment with a quick stride, drops a box of cheerful cupcakes beside her door and keeps walking. If he's lucky, he won't be spotted.]

[The one person that she didn't expect anything from was "Bobby", but she just happened to be coming back to her apartment when she saw a glimpse of that bright white suit. Thinking nothing of it, she continued on to her apartment to see the cupcakes. Picking them up she glanced back.]

[Later in the evening Simon headed back to her apartment, smelling faintly of burnt sugar. He'd cleaned the remains of his failed attempt at baking off of him, but the smell was hard to get out. Never mind. He knocked on her door, other hand in his pocket.]
