[Enki is entirely unperturbed by Yurick's approach and indeed, Yurick will find that Enki is solid enough to the touch. For the moment, anyway. Being the full representation of Atsuro's soul, Enki is fully aware of what Yurick and Atsuro are up to at the moment and largely ignores Yurick.

The jug of water is duly upended and a crystal clear stream of water gushes over Atsuro's hands.]

...Thanks. That's good, I think.

[A slight pause. To Yurick, now - ]

Do you want to see any more?

Ah... n-- not if it's draining for you to summon him.

[He can't recall if anything like this exists on his world. They're not sure exactly what the Outsider is, and beyond that Yurick can't picture anything close to this power called Persona.

He still has no idea how to summon his own, if he really does possess one now.]

How do you do that?

It's not really. Only when he uses magic or some other skill... Then it feels like he's drawing energy for his attacks straight from me.

[Atsuro gives a small shrug as he shakes off his wet hands.]

It's hard to explain before it happens for the first time. But after it does, you can sort of... feel for it.

It's likely he's drawing something like mana from you. In magical theory, we're taught that everyone possesses it, that it's what gives us life, but only some can use it to cast spells.

[Even though Enki is a part of Atsuro, Yurick still feels the need to incline his head politely at the Persona. After all, he was polite to Atsuro's demons....]

[Yurick was quite right, of course, but Atsuro had never received magical theory classes. Enki nods back with a vaguely amused smile before fading from sight.]

Awakening the Persona happens under times of stress - usually, it's the first time you fight a demon here. I've seen it happen a few times now; sometimes people even try and artificially induce it.

That explains why I've not yet seen it. I was attacked here one night when everything went strange, but because I'm so accustomed to fighting I simply used my own magic.

[Or he lacks a Persona because he already has his magic to protect himself. But Atsuro has his demons and yet he still has a Persona... ah, this is so confusing! Yurick frowns.]

I don't enjoy the thought of putting myself in danger just to test an unfamiliar power. I can't imagine why others would do something like that.

[A slight shrug.]

Let's just say some people are reckless and desperate, for one reason or another. But... yeah, it's a good idea to let it happen more... naturally.

When I first came to Hinoto-Ri, there was an Anoli attack the very first night. They were pretty tough customers - you'll probably feel the same way if you ever met more than a few demons at a time.

There were only a few when I encountered them, and luckily they underestimated me. Most people do because of my stature.

[He turns to focus his attention on the stack of boxes.]

It's why I learned magic in the first place. I can fight with a dagger if I need to, but I'm not front-line like Zael.

[Taking a deep breath, he glances over at Atsuro, a small grin finding his lips again.]

Ready to see what I can do, then?

Yeah! Absolutely.

[Atsuro backs up a few steps at this point. Considers. ...Backs up a few more. When he is quite close to the dumpsters, he'll throw Yurick a thumbs-up and turn his attention back towards the stack of cardboard he had thrown on the floor.]

Go ahead whenever you're ready!

[Yurick brings his hands up to chest level, as if he's holding a ball between his fingertips. The air between his hands begins to shimmer at the same time pale wisps of energy rise up from the ground around him. That energy actually lifts him off the asphalt until he's floating a few feet off the ground.

Five seconds he holds his charge, when he suddenly raises his hands over his head and in an instant the shimmer between them ignites into a massive fireball. He rears back and flings it at the stack, blasting it into a shower of burning fragments and ash. The energy of the spell melts into the ground and spreads into a circle of fiery light more than ten feet in diameter, sending up smoke and wisps of flame.

The mage drops to the ground with the magic charge gone from his body, landing without so much as a stumble.]

[Atsuro is glad he stood back.]

That's... very impressive.

[After facing assorted demon lords and angels launch their attacks, Atsuro generally wasn't surprised by very much anymore. Maragidynes were old news; even Megidolaon had become something he had grown used to taking straight in the face. But for Yurick, professing to be a mere human mage, to possess that level of power on his own without contracting with demons was admittedly surprising.

After a few moments of watching the smouldering flames (it was very hypnotizing), he shakes his head and ventures forward a few steps.]

I expect your mercenary group doesn't have to do much. They can stand back and clap while you incinerate everything in a mile radius.

Not exactly. I can be struck out of my charging and the magic dissipates. I have to start concentrating all over again. So the front-line fighters protect me and the other mages in our group while we cast. It's... really a group effort.

[He'd taken some nasty blows when Zael, Dagran, and Syrenne let something slip past their guard. He recalled being knocked out cold more than once when the group was simply overwhelmed, coming to only through Mirania's healing or Zael's gifted power from the Outsider.]

And I did have to work at it for a long time. Even I started out very weak in the beginning.

[Of course, the secret to his power was more than simple hard work. That was why he kept his right eye covered....]

Hah... I think I know how that goes.

['Atsuro you have the highest Strength you stand over there and we'll snipe with magic here you can even have Pierce']

But that's great! It's just like --

[He will cut himself off before he says anything about raiding and MMOs.]

-- like. Teamwork! Right. Er. Great teamwork, which is how... teams should. Work. In order to take down mobs. I mean. Enemies.

[Yurick chuckles as his magic circle continues to burn. They take a long time to vanish on their own, but Zael's power can disperse them instantly to devastating effect.]

You said your power is primarily water and ice? It's a shame Lowell isn't here, then. He's our group's ice mage. Big bloke, friendly if a bit rowdy.

Heh... I'm not usually good with any magic, like I said. My Persona has a life of its own, though. For some reason, they tend to take on the forms of... gods or demons from mythology - mythology from any world, really. Yours might end up being something or someone you recognize.

Mine is Enki - a Sumerian god of creation and the flood. He's what they call my Soul Persona.

[Atsuro will casually poke at the burning magic circle with another piece of stray cardboard as he speaks.]

[Something from his world? There are a few things he could imagine, and some of them have him making an uncomfortable face. What if his Persona turned out to be something awful, like a Muruk?

He notices Atsuro poking at the circle and smirks when the piece of cardboard bursts into flames... but Atsuro feels only the gentlest warmth from it and oddly the fire doesn't consume that particular piece as long as it remains in the boy's hand.]

There are other types of Persona, too, you can grab from... some kind Persona repository. It's a bit strange, but we share those.

[He hadn't really expected it to not be set alight although he is slightly surprised that it goes up in flames so quickly.]

Gah -- !

It's not burning you, is it? That's the effect it has on my allies' weapons. None of us dare to use fists in the field, but it might charge your hands without harming you. Try it.

[At worst, nothing would happen. Atsuro was an ally, Yurick's magic would do him no harm so long as he remained as such.]

...A cardboard box is a weapon?

[Still, Atsuro doesn't throw it aside, though he does shake it up and down a little bit.]

G-Give me a second before I go setting anything on fire, aha...

[He hadn't set his battle parameters yet. He wasn't actually sure if he could fight with any semblance of skill without the COMP, but best not to make a fool of himself in front of his new friend. Atsuro lowers the box to the ground and quickly digs the demon summoning device out of his pocket again.

A few clicks and beeps later and -- ]

OK. So should I just... touch it?

Make a fist and hold it within the boundary of the circle. At worst, it won't have any effect. My magic won't harm my allies. At best, you might find yourself with a magically burning fist. Imagine the kind of punch you could deliver with that.

[This will be a first for Yurick if it works. If he can enhanced unarmed combat, it will be an advantage if any of the fighters in his group are disarmed.]

...

[Well. He can't imagine this entire conversation being some sort of strange elaborate plot to incinerate him, so there's no reason not to believe Yurick. Especially with his COMP activated and Harmonizing now. Still, despite being on the receiving end of many a fireball in his day, there's something different about thrusting your hand straight into a fire.]

Let's see, then...!

[And towards the flames he goes.]

((Aha, how likely do you think it is this would work? I'm not 100% canon familiar, although I've played a bit of Last Story.))

[Yurick has to admit, Atsuro has guts. He knows the other boy has to be afraid, despite Yurick's assurances that the fire will be harmless to him one way or another. It's an instinctual fear, after all.

He's tense with anticipation, the part of him that thirsts for knowledge deeply curious to see what will happen. His fingers are actually crossed as he silently wishes to see flames wrapping around Atsuro's fist.]

[Admittedly, Atsuro has a pained expression on his face and his eyes are half squinted closed as he awaits the inevitable searing sensation. ...He had equipped Diarahan, just in case.

...

The searing sensation does not come. Atsuro allows himself to stare at his hands now as he slowly lifts them away from the magical fire - as he does so, the flames quickly shoot up his arms and run up and down his body, causing him to let loose a small gasp of alarm. They dissipate quickly, though, leaving both his fists and his shoes to smoulder steadily.]

...

Whoa.

[The mage almost wants to shout with the success and clap Atsuro's shoulder in admiration of his courage. Instead he just grins, nodding in approval. Decorum is everything.]

It'll wear off after a few minutes unless you go back into the circle. I wonder what will happen if you strike something like that.

[Atsuro's ear suddenly itches. He resists the urge to scratch it as he continues to stare at his burning hands.]

Gotcha.

It's like a Mystic K -- [and then the copyright police appear and drag Atsuro off into jail] -- Cavalier - you can imbue weapons with an element. It's probably fire elemental now.

What do you think I should try...?

[His gaze falls onto the dumpster. ...Damaging public property probably wasn't the best idea right.]
