*Watch turns on, and there's our boy -- a slightly lanky, bespectacled guy whose hair is probably the coolest obvious thing about him. He's got a pendant of some sort too; looks like a shield.*

This thing on? Ah, there we go. I figured I should introduce myself right now: My name's Nicholas Reeve, spirit medium and paranormal investigator. Yes, I know how that sounds, but trust me, it's a real thing where I come from. I just figured I'd better introduce myself and get that out in the open so you folks can get to know me better.

*He pauses.*

Or call me a lunatic. Because I get that a lot, trust me. Anyway, yes, I do seances, but it'd be kind of irrelevant for most of you here from what I gather. For now, anyway. A pleasure to meet you all! ...uh, except for the ones I already met, in which case it's more "Hi again."

It seems like the "paranormal" is common in this world, so a spirit medium doesn't sound out of place.

This kind of thing happens surprisingly often in my world, to be honest. Someone's probably at least figured out what happened to me by now, even if they can't follow.

Just as long as they don't worry, I guess. Weird stuff tends to happen at home, too. Of course, that's strictly assuming the flow of time works the same here as there.

That's true...there's no reason to assume that time passes the same between different worlds, or that when we're transported back we'll arrive at a proportionally later point in time.

Yeah. I've heard you never know with these things. Some of the regular world travelers say it can be a tricky business going to and from different worlds because of time dilation.

That's true. Differences in relative masses and velocities of planets and even changes in the constant of the speed of light between universes would combine with the probabilistic nature of quantum-level differences between universes in...a really unpredictable way.

...makes me wish my world had managed to develop a Grand Unified Theory, really.

I've had more than a few encounters with them myself, but most of those were under extenuating circumstances.

I tend to work more with civilian incidents, myself. You know, somebody buys a house, puts some work in, finds all their paintings getting swatted off the walls. Stuff like that.

You get some hostility. It's kind of inevitable. But if they're hostile without any ability to listen to reason, I don't really work very well with them unfortunately.

Perhaps. If I could find a guy like that, we'd probably work pretty well together. Dunno what the odds of that are though.

Well enough. Already ran into one spirit. Sounds like they've got a bit of a situation on their hands.

With what I've heard so far that does seem to be the case, if what the gentleman with the butterfly mask said about needing us to help here is true.

So it seems. Honestly, if the situation is THAT bad, I'm surprised he didn't find a few more spirit talkers or exorcists out there in the multiverse. I'm hardly the BEST.

Do not doubt yourself. Everyone here had to be chosen for a reason. The reason you were chosen to be here might not have been your skill as a medium.

Don't see what else it could be, unless it's my charming personality. Unless they want me to pick locks, which I SWEAR I only know because a friend taught me for the hell of it really.

I don't know. Picking locks could be useful if you've locked yourself out of your house or if there's an emergency and the only way in or out is through picking a lock.

I'm pretty sure I didn't get dragged into a highly volatile situation between two opposing forces just because I know how to pop open a padlock.

Um... frustrating at times. If you're lucky, it's something simple and can be done within the location of where the person is. If you're unlucky, the case can get a lot more complicated. And if you're REALLY unlucky a spirit just plain doesn't want to talk period. I'm... admittedly a little poorly equipped for that sort of situation.

Not always in that polite of language. Some folks seem to think I'm the type of guy who just makes them explode or something. I don't... usually stay employed with those guys long. Eh heh.

Some people see ghosts more as pests or threat than former people, which is the problem. And sometimes just taking the aggressive way out can make things worse.

Kinda varies. Some are just like transparent people. Others are a little more abstract. It usually depends on how attached they were to their Earthly forms, or how emotional they are in death. Some of them shift to more accessible forms if you can calm them down a bit.
