I guess I'm new here. This place is really weird. It doesn't make sense.

It's Ushiro, by the way, if any of the others are here.

Hospital food sucks. They told me I needed to get my strength up by eating, but how are you supposed to eat when everything tastes like cardboard?

Also 'combat fatigue' is a stupid sounding diagnosis. It just sounds like you took a nap during a battle.

You simply just eat your food. If you wish to eat food that fit your tastes, you can have them after you're discharged from the hospital.

The alternative name for "combat fatigue" is "combat stress reaction". Would you prefer being told that as your diagnosis?

One battle, then you die. On to the next person, until your planet's done its required number of battles.

It's not like we were told the rules before we got involved.

In theory, but no country is going to use them.

Yet, at least.

And we don't know. We have no clue who started this stupid 'game', or why. We don't know where any of this came from. The last pilot shows up on a new planet, recruits new pilots, and keeps the game going - because if they don't, their planet will be destroyed.

It's not always people my age who pilot it. Sometimes they're adults. Sometimes they aren't. It seems the younger the pilot the more power they have during their fight, though.

But there's not a choice. You have to play. You have to die. Otherwise your planet will be wiped out, and so will you - so there's no point in taking out your whole planet when you can save people. Not that every pilot's the heroic sort of person. It doesn't matter. Someone in our group got killed because he wouldn't fight, and someone stepped up to replace him. You fight and you die, or you don't fight and you die. It doesn't matter, except that it's so stupid to not fight. Even if you're going to lose, just do something.

It's an endless cycle and no one has the ability to break it and it's horrible and everyone wants it to stop but they can't stop it.

It was. None of us were trained for this kind of thing at all, either. We had no idea of tactics or any of that.

Just ask for a book. Food, if you find a person to sneak it in, unless the nurses give approval.

I don't mind either term. Combat fatigue is simply more common.
