But I take showers and such to get rid of that dirt, so the dirt transferring from my clothes to me gets washed away anyways, right?

So couldn't I wear my clothes until the dirt is gone, then take a shower and then myself and my clothes would be clean?

"A lot of the oils that come from your body get trapped in the fibers of the clothes and have to be cleaned out separately. That and they smell a lot nicer after a washing and drying in the sun."
