Hello, Hinoto-Ri. A lot has occurred recently, hasn't it? I heard there had been a mystical journey to an alternative world! I wish I could have gone. It would have been amazing to see the denizens of the other world, to see how they lived and acted... differences occur in different worlds, as Hinoto-Ri is-

Oh, my apologies. I have rambled.

In any case, I am certain that many of you have discussed the events that have passed extensively between yourselves. My discussion is of a trivial, yet very important matter! A recent conversation has made me ponder over something that still eludes me, and relates to my previous comments on how my world, and Hinoto-Ri, are very different from one another.

What is fashion?

I did not know what this was when first arriving here, but I have read and researched the subject, and fashion seems to be a very important cultural and social aspect of humanity! Just having the correct clothes, worn in the correct way, with the correct brand allows you to climb the social ladder with ease! I don't really understand it, but the concept of it fascinates me!

I would love to hear your opinions on it! Let us begin a discussion!

do not misunderstand. i call them frightening but i do not fear them. i don't feel things. except curiosity. if that can count for an emotion. in fact their frightening nature makes me even more curious. they are violent and cruel and so selfish. and yet they give rise to such things like beauty. art. friendship. love. they are walking contradictions and create good as well as evil. it excites me. what path would they walk. destructive yes. but perhaps creation. theyve shown to be able to survive very much like cockroac oh. my apologies. i have rambled a considerable amount.

Or that perhaps they are in trouble, such as loss of home, or have been attacked. Such things normally spark the compassion response in humans.

So much effort just to establish a fashionable attire. What are the benefits of it, I wonder? From what I have observed, trends go in and out of fashion quite quickly. Do humans get that bored that quickly...?

Yes, there are some who do not care about fashion as well. Why is this? Perhaps it is those who are not into 'socialising'. Would that make you abnormal by human standards?

So, to display their intentions or personality for those to see? You can do that with 'fashion'? I would have thought humans would be a bit more secretive about their true selves, not display it for the world to see, unless it is a sort of... façade...?

Hmmm, so those who would focus on such things would mean that they are already in a comfortable position in society. If they sacrifice practicality for an artistic statement of some kind...

Is that so? So why were you, um, fashionable, if not to gain access to popular social circles?

Some people don't feel it's worth the effort. It's easier just to slap on a t-shirt and some jeans, call it a day.

True, though there's not as many compassionate people in the world as you'd hope.

Obviously if you're freezing you'll want to wear something that's warm, but most people aren't in danger of things like that when they choose what to wear.

Not so different as one might suspect. I was born human, after all. And I've lived among them-- well, with my clan, but still among humans -- my entire life.

I can't yet speak much as to what clothing is considered fashionable here, but which colors, against what skin and hair, fail to cast one in a deathly pallor... I should think it would hardly change between societies. It's a matter strictly of colors, not cultures.

Perhaps the fabric store would be best... once we find which colors flatter you, we could buy small samples of each, assemble them into something of a book, and then when you go clothes-hunting, you could take that with you for comparison? I do similar with bringing along samples of materials, when I need to match them, though for that, it's often something other than cloth.

Ah, but what IS normality? Fretting about foolish things like whether your dress is just the right shade? If that's normal, I think I'm perfectly content being abnormal, thank you.

Ah, anyway... I can see you've gotten a lot of answers already, but I'd still like to say something. Fashion is mainly a way of expressing, or... _{suppressing...} someone's sense of personality. If you admire a person or what they stand for, then dressing like them can be a way of showing that. Even wearing something you normally wouldn't can say things - like mourning clothes, in particular.

I'm not sure. To be fashionable and look good to those who are also fashionable? Everyone's taste is different, I supposed.
