Hello, Hinoto-Ri. A lot has occurred recently, hasn't it? I heard there had been a mystical journey to an alternative world! I wish I could have gone. It would have been amazing to see the denizens of the other world, to see how they lived and acted... differences occur in different worlds, as Hinoto-Ri is-

Oh, my apologies. I have rambled.

In any case, I am certain that many of you have discussed the events that have passed extensively between yourselves. My discussion is of a trivial, yet very important matter! A recent conversation has made me ponder over something that still eludes me, and relates to my previous comments on how my world, and Hinoto-Ri, are very different from one another.

What is fashion?

I did not know what this was when first arriving here, but I have read and researched the subject, and fashion seems to be a very important cultural and social aspect of humanity! Just having the correct clothes, worn in the correct way, with the correct brand allows you to climb the social ladder with ease! I don't really understand it, but the concept of it fascinates me!

I would love to hear your opinions on it! Let us begin a discussion!

Hm, in a society based on ability to impress and speak, that is no surprise. Humans do tend to judge firstly by looks and appearances before allowing themselves to extend to the personality.

Ha. Ha. Ha. Of course this is not always true! Sometimes the worse off the human looks, the more trustworthy they are as a camaraderie of suffering!

Well, it is the only side of the concept I am interested in. If other creatures are interested in it, very well, but they are not the focus of my curiosity.

If you like humans so much, why don't you cut open their heads and scan their brain?

But how would, uhm, industry convince the populous that their attire are the more socially acceptable ones? I assume they would have to secure their place as a 'trend'...?

Sort of... there are not so many conflicting answers this time. Rather they all agree that fashion is set by 'trends', and that yes, becoming fashionable means you are granted access to the higher echelons of society. But there are others who say that fashion does not secure quality of character. I already knew that, however. The outside does not change the inside.

Fashion statement...? Could you elaborate. What exactly about the clothing could be deemed a 'statement'?

I love artistry! I see, is it attempting to create a sort of masterpiece with their clothing? That would explain the impracticality and bright colours...

Yes, I see. I have gotten a lot of interesting information regarding this, but you have confirmed the others. It is to boost social reputation, whether you care about the style or not, it is to help you gain access into social circles that would otherwise be barred to you. It is an interesting concept...

Very complex, however. Nothing humans do is simple, ha ha ha...

I have no preference. My clothing is purely practical. I care not for what it looks like - although perhaps I should try out being 'fashionable', if only to observe the higher tiers of society up close. I haven't had a chance to observe a group of high social standing humans interact yet.

I do not have a scanning ability and that would kill them. I do not like harming humans unless it is absolutely necessary for my own personal survival.

Pffft! I bet that's a load of bull! Who died and made you a god?

Like that! A lot of effort goes into making clothes that will get attention and be part of a masterpiece.

You can look at it this way. A person is something like a blank slate. Fashion is one way for someone to make their mark, stand out among the crowd, tell the whole world who they are, what they are feeling, and what they believe in.

Believe it or not, fashion can have that kind of power.

I guess? Then again usually someone who looks really terrible is a sign that they don't care about themselves and usually means there's something wrong with them mentally. At least that's the perception.

Bravo again! Rejecting a trend comes with many risks, friendlessness and social poverty being just a few. Superficially, it represents an unwillingness to conform to an idea that people are comfortable with; not having the resources to support a fashion is bad enough, but outright rejecting all trends? Depending on the group and the idea in question, conflict or sometimes outright violence can ensue. Once the social boundaries become so strong that even acknowledging an outcast can get you shunned from the group from fear of association, the fear of danger and the unknown can shut out an outcast from a circle entirely.

Uh, it's not that complicated, is it? I mean, I guess there's the social circles thing, but I think you don't have to worry about that to be interested in fashion. I knew all sorts of stuff back home, but I wasn't really in any of the popular groups or anything, heheh.

Advertising, merchandising in stores, getting celebrities to wear it in media, or to even do the ads... There's many ways.

Oh dear. Sounds like it would be rather dissatisfying for you!

For the record, I could care less about fashion. People of my sort don't tend to be very popular ANYWAY.

Might I suggest paying attention to which colors tend to flatter you, even if practicality is the primary consideration for your wardrobe? I've noticed that some colors go better with others; one ought to take into consideration the colors of their skin and hair, just as much as their existing garments. Some colors can be quite flattering and give a good impression, and other colors... may rather make one appear as though ill. And at least where I'm from, humans tend to keep distance from those who are ill, because they don't want to catch whatever they may have.

The clothing in this city's markets seem to mostly come in a variety of colors, for each type of garment. I'm certain that when you find something suitable to your goals, you'll have at least two or three options for colors among those... If you'd like, I would be happy to accompany you to a fabric or clothing store, that we might find out what sorts of colors best suit you, in advance...?

how frightening. i love how independent and free humans can be. but to think that their social conformity can restrict to the point of pure isolation ah but that explains a few things on my world in retrospect. if something does not conform to the norm then it is to be rejected due to inability to understand or fear. or perhaps simply because they refuse to be normal. this can go beyond fashion however. many things. position. careers. financial stability. where you are born. what you are. the more i learn and understand humans. the more frightening they become.

Frightening enough to make you stop wondering? Or are you the type to face the fear of the unknown? There's a place for both types in the world, after all... it does take a bit of character to attain greater heights, though.

Work? But the effort is half of the charm!

Well, I am uncertain as to who passed to allow me to take the title of God, but it is not 'a load of bull'.

Colour suitability...? Ah, that is an area I am not well suited in.

[Although Anant was an artist, one who drew and took photographs of beautiful things, and was able to parse the character of a person by the mere colour of their aura - they... weren't very good in meshing colours together. Why couldn't orange go with red? Why was yellow and green a risky combination? Such things eluded them]

But would your sense of 'fashionable' be similar to a human's? You are different creatures, after all...
