Somehow... I seem to have missed Valentine's Day. I remember I was going to run by the store, but things get a little fuzzy...

[Yeah, her memories after getting hit by that arrow? Are so hazy she's pretty certain it was all just a dream. But maybe that's for the best.]

I was planning to give out chocolates, but it seems like I forgot to do that as well. Would anybody mind if I gave it to them today? I apologize for being late. I bought some extras, too, so even if we haven't met before, I don't mind sharing. Just let me know and I would be happy to give you one.

[And, as almost an afterthought-]

It sounds like almost everybody received coupons for a dinner for two. I was thinking, it might be nice if everyone went in a group. If we use the coupons for a pair of people each, we could use half of the coupons on one trip and then the other half for a second group dinner somewhere else. It would be a great way for everyone to relax and enjoy spending time with each other. Would anybody else be interested in doing this?

I really can't. It's odd... I hope this isn't the work of a demon or a spirit who is attacking citizens or anything. [It may not be killing, but stealing memories isn't exactly a good thing, either.]

If it's an attack from a demon or a spirit, there would be news reporting about it.

[After Valentine's Day, one of the first thing Miyako did was to check the news.]

...Right. [The people here are aware of demons, so of course they would report that sort of thing.]

Then... I wonder what it could have been?

...I'm looking at the news and asking around about it.

[Because Miyako would dearly love to meet the troublemaker again for some words.]

If it's not a demon, that means it may be humans, nonhumans but not a demon, and so forth.

Whoever it is, I hope they don't do it again. It could cause a lot of problems if people continue to forget entire days.

Once we know the perpetrator, we can start designing protective measures against their methods.

[No, Miyako wasn't affected as well. What gives you that idea.]

Right. There has to be some way to put a stop to this.

[And by that she means a peaceful conclusion, naturally.]

...And how do you intend on stopping this?

Well... If we can find the culprit, we can ask them what their intent was. If it's just a prank, I was thinking we could explain to them why it's too dangerous to do again, and ask them not to repeat it.

If they really meant to harm people by doing that... I would still like to speak with them, to make sure they understand the extent of the problems they could have caused. If we can end this without anyone being harmed, I think it's worth trying to discuss it first.

If they don't understand, or choose to continue, we can just lock them up.

Right. And if it comes to that, they will be able to reflect on their actions during their imprisonment. Hopefully it will give them an opportunity to understand why what they did was wrong, and they could gain a second chance.

[Nooo violence!]

[Miyako give a small but cool smile.] Or they can stay locked up forever, if they never understand or choose to behave again.

...I believe that as long as they are willing to change, anyone should be given a second chance. But if they continue to be a danger to others, I would prefer they were able to keep their lives in captivity than be killed and never able to even try to repent.
