[VIDEO] ☾ first phrase: death-bros and introductions

[ The video feed clicks on to display two boys, one a young child in black-and-white stripes with curly black locks of hair, and the other a teenager with a long yellow scarf wrapped smugly around his neck, suspenders and slicked back black hair. They share an identical small beauty mark under their left eye and they're both seated at a table in... Minato's apartment. (Blame Pharos for the location, okay.) Pharos is speaking, clear and modulated in his tone of voice; ]

—It's on, I think.

[ The transmission of the boardcast jars unpleasantly for a moment before stilling as Ryoji steadies the camera and beams down at it, not as cheerfully as he would have before attempting to end the world, but it's a start. It's probably right about here you notice they have the same blue eyes. A shade of blue so unnaturally bright it's almost creepy. The older teenager then starts talking, still grinning; ]

Anyway, it's working now, right? [ Why wouldn't it be, oh, wait, this is these guys we're talking about. Godly beings or not, it probably took them awhile to puzzle out all the tricks of the comp. Nevermind. Ryoji presses onward; ]

Good! Well, first things first. Hello, Hinoto-Ri, I'm Ryoji Mochizuki... And this is Pharos. [ He gestures at the small boy, who nods and waves cheerfully at the communication device, mouthing; Hello. ] He's my... Hmm, well, I guess you could say we're brothers, the two of us! We've been here for a couple days now and thought it would be a good idea to introduce ourselves on the network. I mean, that's what everyone normally does, right... ? Either way, it's a pleasure to meet you all!

... [ Pharos decides to offer his own public greetings to the city of Hinoto-Ri. The small ten year old was seated on a chair, his pale face barely level with the video feed and he totally doesn't have a creepy yet innocent smile at all, nope. ] I sincerely hope we'll be able to get along and be friends, everyone. This may be quite a strange world we've all been pulled to as Guests, but it's an interesting one, indeed.

[ There's a pause. Are they going to end the feed here? It sure looks like it— ]

Hey, by the way Minato-kun! [ Hahaha, you thought this transmission would end without Ryoji being a silly derp. He winks at the camera. ] Haha, I forgot to ask back when I first arrived; are there any cute gir—

[ Pharos is already reaching for the comp before Ryoji begins talking, unintentionally cutting off the end of the teenager's question. The feed ends. Sorry, bro. ]

[ They're here because they love ya', death bro. And of course they won't be so careless as to damage a single of his cherished social link items; Pharos fully endorsed Minato making bonds after all!

If Minato is looking at the screen, he'll see all the responses, including a white-haired girl—Miki—staring blankly out of the video feed before abruptly cutting off the connection with no further explaination for her behavior. Pharos doesn't offer any commentary on Ryojis' and Minato's conversation regarding 'cute girls' since he has no personal interest in 'cute girls.'

But he'll let the grey-eyed teenager look at the comp without protest or anything on his part. ]

[ Pharos perks up at the mention of one of the proverbial centers of his world and existence. ]

Yes. I am always with him. [ And Minako! Shame Ryoji no longer remembers the whole parallel universes thing, Minako is a wonderful person, too.

Aren't you one of Minako's precious bonds... ]

[ lol he wasn't sneaking, he was right in front of you actually! ]

Heheh.

[ Death doesn't age, silly. It just gets stronger; his is a very fluid existence. People have always seen death in many different ways and so on. It also involves recovering from getting ripped into thirteen damn pieces by a machine with a soul and performing a union with said pieces to become whole once more.

Hades, thank you for being the rock star's resident source of elaboration. It's helpful. Keeps these sort of things simple.

Pharos looks over at Ryoji, one eyebrow raised at Eikichi's question. Well, 'big bro'? ]

[ The smile on his pale face fades to confusion when Miki abruptly cuts the transmission without saying a single word, and the screen goes blank. Pharos frowns unhappily. ]

... Did we say something wrong?

[ ? ]

This is Ryoji?

This is the other guy Minako had dated? ...Among other clearly less important things, such as being death reincarnated, combined with all the world-ending fun that had come with that, nipping at the metaphorical coattails of the kid's hellishly long scarf. Well, he'll be damned. Shinjiro had always idly wondered if Ryoji would show up here. Seemed bound to happen eventually, considering how saturated this place seemed to be with people from their world—or versions of them, anyway.]

[And now that he is here, hovering next to that Pharos kid, Shinjiro's still not quite sure what to make of him. Or what even to think, really. He may or may not have seen a picture ~~or fifty~~ of Ryoji in Miki's gigantic tome of a photo album, but it's one thing to see a static photo of someone, and another thing to see and hear them in person... though Shinjiro's beginning to see why he and Junpei had gotten along so famously.]

[But he mentioned Minato.

Does that mean this Ryoji's from Minato's timeline then?

...

He flips on the video feed, face as impassive as it usually is, though his gaze lingers for a moment or two on the video screen—brothers, huh?—before speaking.]

So you're the Mochizuki kid?

[ Oh, it's the dude who was sharing bedspace with his dearest. Shinjiro, are you ignoring him? :< But the question is directed at his 'older brother', so Pharos doesn't say anything for the moment.

He just meets his gaze steadily, smiling the tiniest bit before returning his attention to Ryoji's answer. ]

A completely deadpan looking and sounding girl appears and stares at the video.

"You're one of Minato's friends? Were you involved in persona use before too?"

[ The small Death hums thoughtfully. ]

I am. He interests me!

[ Understatement central, here we come. ] Yes, in a way.

[ He wasn't a Persona-user back in their home dimension himself! But he was most certainly involved with them. As the provider of Minato's contract, as the Persona Thanatos, as one of the major trigger for the creation of the Dark Hour a decade ago, as a part of the protagonist's subconscious mind, as the harbinger of the Fall and summoner of Nyx. Take your pick, really. ]

Hey, that's right. You come from one of the universes without Persona, the inner facade of determination to face the world. This must be a new experience for you. [ Beat. ] Minato was kind, to have helped you through some of that.

"Well, he explained what a persona was. I'm still trying to not have to rely on something like that. I'm not entirely comfortable with it all."

Why not? [ Pharos asked, bemused. ] It is as much a part of you as an arm or a leg. Are you uncomfortable with your own will?

"The form it takes is... Not a happy form."

The form of a Persona will always signify something important about its user, be it a negative or positive aspect of your psyche. If you are unhappy with the shape it takes, perhaps you are unhappy about some part of yourself?

I've seen some cute girls around, but I haven't been able to talk to any outside of the Velvet Room! I wonder if she's off-limits...

Ryoji, you can talk to this person. Every male keeps answering your question about females and that is boring. Pharos has no interest in cute girls (other than Minako!) The young boy hops down from the chair and vanishes from the screen and leaves his relative to chat with the green-haired boy. ]

[ Well, after catching the tail end of Miki's dramatic departure from Pharos' Comp, Minato is a bit concerned. He knows very well that Ryoji isn't going to know who Miki is, and he knows it's hard seeing even just a friend who has no idea who you are. So ... once Miki has had a few minutes to herself (and he's answered Ryoji's question about cute girls), he takes a few moments to send her a text. ]

I'm sorry. I should have let everyone know right away about new people showing up.

Are you going to be okay?

[ And, he wonders ,if there's anything specific he should tell to Ryoji to try and make things as easy on them all as possible. But he'll ask Miki if there's anything she wants him to relay to make it easier for her in a minute. ]

"Everyone has parts of them they are unhappy with. Its just a sad part of the human condition."

[ Are you avoiding the question? Tell him something he doesn't know. ]

Yes, but are you unhappy with the specific part of you that your Persona could possibly represent?

[ Of course, her Persona could also be a manifestion of her relationship with another person. A bond formed with another can be damaged, or even reversed if one doesn't take care. Or it could be a connection that is hindering her potential. ]

"I am... Uncomfortable that it is the previous captain of the Nadesico."

[Indeed.]

Oh. Then are you two childhood friends, if you don't mind being asked? [Saori no it's not like that.]

[She stares at that message for the longest time. Not because he's asking if she's alright...but the fact that he knew. Why HADN'T he told the others?! Of all the things, of all the people, of all the worlds it's just so...

...she needs to calm down, least the phone join the wall in items she destroyed.

Besides...it isn't really his fault, as much as she's angry. Come on, Miki! You've watched enough sentai shows to know misunderstandings like that just lead to worst situations. Minato wouldn't have known. At the same time, she's unsure how to explain this to him and she doesn't want to write it out, if Ryoji might be watching or peeking at what the both of them are saying.]

It's complicated. Not your fault.
