...Maybe just go back and make really sure that the enemy's defeated. Like, really defeated. You wouldn't believe the number of times there's been Galactic War Part XIV because no one ever bothered to check the enemy commander was really really dead or that there wasn't some secret base filled with mechs somewhere.
