Well, where I lived at least, most cities are a lot like Hinoto-ri. There's a lot of technology and a lot of people who need to learn to use and build it. We need doctors, scientists, engineers, politicians, businesspeople, and teachers, to name just a few jobs. That makes it important for everyone to learn things like mathematics, science, history, literature and foreign languages. And even if you don't plan to become a doctor, it makes you a more well-rounded person.
