[Really, he shouldn't be using this detestable thing. Some of its functions are helpful, but the babbling and barking of the masses, not as much. Still, there is something on his mind, and he has seen enough to know that there are some people who come here from worlds very different than his own. Even Hinoto-Ri's laws had needed studying before he could even attempt to practice law. Perhaps there is some measure of knowledge amongst the filth here.]

What is "truth" to you? And how far would you go to pursue it?

[Of course, he knows full well whom this message could reach... but he'll try to ignore that person just the same.]

Facts that have been manipulated can still be facts. Adding one fact onto another fact does not make either of the facts any less real. It simply helps cover the original fact. That's why everything needs to be doublechecked.

As for knowing what's going on in another's mind, it's like I stated. The only reality that truly matters is the reality you yourself know of, because another's reality may be littered with mistakes and misconceptions.

Then, let's turn this around. What if there's a truth that you're certain of, yet unable to prove? By adding one additional fact of your own making, the truth could be brought to light. Is that still misdirection?

You would consider that a crime?

Why is it misdirection if you lead others in the right direction? That doesn't add up at all.

[It takes a few moments for what Blackquill just wrote to truly sink in. Law, order, justice... What a joke. Bobby Fulbright would've agreed wholeheartedly, of course, but the Phantom can only marvel at the contradiction caused by emotional bias.]

I don't know what things are like where you're from, but in my experience, justice often misses its mark. No matter how many genuine facts, evidence and truth, some criminals walk free.

Is that something you'd be willing to risk just for the sake of your ideals? Are you willing to let the grander truth get away because you refuse to add a little white lie of your own?

Is it still truth if it slips between your fingers?

There is a fine line between idealism and ignorance. I trust you understand that much.

Then, I trust you value truth greatly, even when it places you yourself in a troublesome situation.

[Time to feign some ignorance for the sake of keeping the conversation going.]

Your job?

Then the need for truth is understandable. False conviction could have dire consequences.
